Bolshoi Theatre - New Stage
The New Stage, also known as Novaya Stsena, is the newest addition to the Bolshoi Theatre. Construction of the stage began in 1995, and it was built in a new building slightly to the left of the main building. The ceiling painting (plaford) was completed by the Tsereteli studio. The Tsar balcony box (lodge) imitates almost exactly the balcony of the same name in the main building. The stage was completed in 2002, and on November 29, 2002 the stage was opened with The Snow Maiden - an opera in four acts with a prologue by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. According to many sources, this opera was the composer's favorite. During the renovation and reconstruction of the main building, the whole repertoire of the Bolshoi Theater was performed on this stage.
