Only two days left until the premiere of the opera Billy Budd at the Bolshoi Theater. The opera first premiered in 1951 at the Royal Opera House in London. It is an opera by Benjamin Britten, based on a novel by the same name by Herman Melville.
The novel was first published in 1924, though it was written sometime in the late 19th century. The novel follows a seaman named Billy Budd through a difficult period in the British Royal Navy. The novel analyzes charisma, one's needs, the controversy around capital punishment, and man's connection with the past.
The opera will be performed at the New Stage on November 25, 27, 29, and on December 1st. The opera will then be shown in February. This opera is in co-production with the English National Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin. Tickets can be bought on our website, or by phone.
